Hi, it’s me Marimonda!
Today I’d like to introduce you a small church named <San Pietro in Vincoli> in Rome, where you may find St. Peter in Chain and <Moses>, one of Michelangelo’s sculptures in it.
Michelangelo’s the most well-known sculptures are as followings : <Pieta>, <David>, and <Moses>. The first two ones were created when the artist was in his 20s, while the last one was made in his 40s.
Since there’re plenty of things to see and to do in Rome. For this reason, this small church is easily neglected. Considering the fact that <Moses> is one of the best three sculptures by Michelangelo, it may worth to visit here.
As a prophet of Jesus, Moses showed miracles such as the parting of the Red Sea. He must be an important person in the history of the religion. Michelangelo carved this sculpture as a part of the decorations of the tomb of Pope Julius II.
Like other sculptures of Michelangelo, <Moses> is unbelievably realistic from head to toe. Especially, the left arm exposed to the light is extremely a lifelike human being. You can insert a coin to illuminate the sculpture for awhile into a box next to it.
Unlike other two famous sculptures, to see <Moses>, you don’t have to pay since it’s inside a church. Just it’s a bit away from other tourist attractions. It takes about 20 mins by foot from Trevi fountain.
Don’t miss out opportunity to see all the best Michelangelo’s sculptures when you are in Rome.
Enjoy your travel with Marimonda! See you soon 🙂
