Hotel Casa de Peregrinos

Hi, it’s me Marimonda. Today I’d like to share my experience at Hotel Casa de Peregrinos where I spent a night near las lajas sanctuary.

As I mentioned in my previous article, it’s really worth to see the night illumination of the cathedral. Probably some people would prefer night view to day view.

I’d heard Ipiales wasn’t that safe these days, so I decided to stay in las lajas for a night before going to Quito. There are few places available in the lajas, thus reservation is somewhat mandatory. I booked a room at Hotel Casa de Peregrinos where seemed to be one of the two hotels in the town.

I arrived at the town quite late (later than 8 p.m.). The hotel was located in the entrance of the town. It would be easy to find. If you have difficulties in finding it, ask any locals and they would know where it is.

The entrance of the hotel was a bit hard to find in dark. It’s in a shopping mall, and you can only see the entrance on the first floor. What I didn’t like was that I should’ve rang the bell any time I want to get into the hotel. Then, a receptionist comes down and opens the door for you. So, it wasn’t that comfortable since I felt bad for the receptionist.

I went there at the second week of January after the Christmas and New Year’s holidays, so the hotel was quite empty. The room was quite spacious. Facilities were quite simple. One thing noticeable was the Jesus statue on the wall. Since I am not a christian, I thought it was too much. Considering the fact that most people visit this place would be christians, I thought it was normal to hang it on the wall. The bed was quite hard. If you’re used to sleep in soft mattress, you may find difficult to fall asleep.

Breakfast is included in all plan. I was served some fruits and bread with a drink. To be honest, I was somewhat disappointed. They were yummy but not enough to fill myself.

Thanks to its location, the price of the hotel is pretty high. It cost 150,000 cop (about $45) for a night. They accept cash only. So prepare some cash if you’re planning to stay here. There are ATM machines near the hotel, but sometimes they’re out of cash. Thus, it would be better to withdraw in advance.

It was good to stay (one of the best things might be you can enjoy las lajas in tranquility) if you’re visiting las lajas for the first time. But if I ever go again to las lajas, I will stay in Ipiales.
