Coco Bongo

Hi, it’s me Marimonda. Today I’d like to introduce you Coco Bongo in Cancún.

Coco Bongo is a probably one of the best known nightclubs in the world. It was the club where Jim Carrey danced with Cameron Diaz in a movie <The Mask>. The movie was released in 1994 and it’s available in some online streaming platforms such as Netflix or IMDb.

Coco Bongo

Coco Bongo seemed a must place to go if you’re traveling Cancún. As soon as I landed in Cancún, Spiderman greeted me with <Coco Bongo> sign. I couldn’t help but take picture with the statue. It might have changed now because it’s been a long time, but Spiderman was also a part of the show at that time.

Even at the beach, I could see the banner in the sky. So, I thought I should go there. I booked the ticket through a travel agency at the hotel for 70 USD including hotel pick-up and unlimited drink.

Checking out the website today, the cheapest ticket <Take One> is 75 USD. At that moment, I didn’t speak any Spanish, so I am not sure whether I was ripped off or not. But I had a great time there and I still remember the night as if it were yesterday.

Atmosphere

Well… I’m not a clubber at all nor a good dancer. I can count the times that I’ve been to a club within one hand. Even if I don’t fancy club, I can’t deny that it was an awesome experience. I had so much fun.

The highlight of the club would be the show. It begins at 11 p.m. The artists perform some scenes of famous movies with live music. The sequence is the repetition of performances and dances. During the dance time, staffs rearrange the stage so that the next perform can be on the stage smoothly.

Also, they randomly highlight on people and show on the big screen, so you can see others dancing and having fun. I also got highlight couple of times. It seemed like there were specific seats that they can send the light.

Between the performances they shoot balloons in the air and staffs walked around the people and give crowns made of balloons, too. Those small touches made the crowd even more excited. I stayed there around 5 hours (from 10:30 p.m. to 3:30 a.m.).

The club was very crowded between 11 p.m. and 1 a.m. After 2 a.m. I could see people are leaving. Luckily, I had a mini-break coming after from Xel-ha so that I could stay late. In a nutshell, it was super fun. Though, I wouldn’t go if I can visit Cancún now due to the Covid-19, but I’m willing to visit again when everything goes back to normal.

I hope you enjoyed the visit to Coco Bongo with me. Take care and see you soon! 🙂
