Sofitel Luxembourg Le Grand Ducal

Hi, it’s me Marimonda!

Today, I’d like to review Sofitel Luxembourg Le Grand Ducal, where I stayed in Luxembourg in August.

Located in hilly area outside of the old town, the hotel has an astonishing view of the city. It’s one of the luxurious hotels here, belong to Accor chain.

Room Type

I booked a standard room during Accor Super Sale promotion period with 30% off and breakfast included. The price can be different depending on the time or the platform that you use to make a reservation. It was an extraordinary experience. The room was spacious, and has a big window toward the city. I could enjoy the view day and night.

What I liked the most was the complimentary minibar. Including two evians on the nightstands, there are four evians, two badoit(sparkling water), two coca-cola, one minute maid and one seven up, thus ten drinks are free. Hermès amenities are provided.

Room Service

You can order your room service from a French restaurant called <Mu> in hotel. Some menus are available for 24 hours. I ordered Pad Thai for dinner. Since the dining price in Luxembourg is high, the price of the room service seems competitive. I was curious how they cook Pad Thai, so I ordered it (also it was one of the cheapest menus, cost about €20 ). Pad Thai has quite an interesting sweet and sour flavor. It was a bit far away from the taste what I expected from Pad Thai, but it was good. Thanks to the free minibar, I didn’t have to order drinks which saved me extra euros.

Breakfast Buffet

The breakfast buffet was also excellent. It seems a bit pricey (€ 31 per person). As I mentioned above, however, my reservation included free breakfast buffet. There were various options from appetizer to dessert. For drinks, you can order at your table and the staffs bring them to your table. Detox juices are also available for free. The view from the restaurant is also breathtaking.

Service

The quality of the service was incredibly high. Even though they work in different sector such as a reception, concierge, etc, all staffs were ready to help. At the lobby, a mini snack bar is prepared.

Other Facilities

Like other hotels, a gym, meeting rooms, or a bar are available.

Enjoy your trip with Marimonda! See you soon 🙂

Mercure Rome Colosseum Centre

Hi, it’s me Marimonda!

It’s been a while that I wrote my review of accommodations. I reviewed two hotels in Paris previously, if you’re interested in click Paris Hyatt Regency Etoile and Paris Marriott Opera Ambassador Hotel.

I stayed in Mercure Rome Colosseum Centre between 17th to 20th June. Reviewing a hotel is very difficult for me because as soon as I get into the room, I mess up everything in the room. Lying on the bed, unpacking… This time wasn’t an exception. However, I’d like to share my experience in this place. It would be enough if my review helps someone’s decision to book this hotel.

I reserved the cheapest room for two people during Accor Hotel Super Sale in May with 30% off including breakfast. It was around € 520 for 3 nights in the middle of June. The price was not cheap but I don’t think I can afford it without the promotion. I just searched it, it costs almost €800 for the same room condition now.

My room was 223 without the Colosseum view. I am not sure whether I got upgrade or not, but the room was spacious for two people. In the room, there was a mini living room with a couch and tea table, a big bed next to a business table. The toilet and the shower were separated, thus we could use the time efficiently in the morning. Sorry not to attach the pictures of the room, but it was messed up right after my check in.. You may see it in its official website.

As you may guess from the name of the hotel, it’s very close to the Colosseum. It takes less than 5 mins by foot to Colosseum. The rooftop swimming pool opens from May to September from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The swimming pool is not that big as it looks in the picture, neither many people use it during the day. Thus, it can give you a refreshing pause from the hot weather in Rome. Plus, the view is amazing and unbelievable. Even if you don’t plan to swim, it’s worth to go up to the rooftop to see the view. The swimming pool doesn’t run at evening, and the hotel uses that place as a restaurant. Unfortunately, I couldn’t go to the restaurant, but the price seemed reasonable (around€15-20 per dish).

Breakfast is served from 6:30 a.m. The breakfast has various bread and offers hot meals(baked zucchini, eggplant, egg, sausage, etc), too. One day, we had to leave early in the morning to go to the Vatican (Click to see my post about Vatican Museum), we had no time to have breakfast. I asked them if they can prepare a take out meal box (€ 6). On the following day, we got two meal boxes including bread, an apple, biscuits, mini packages of nutella, jam and honey, a bottle of water, a fruit juice. Since my reservation includes the breakfast, the meal box was free of charge.

The receptionists were super kind and the reception opens for 24 hours. It was also convenient since we came back to hotel around midnight everyday.

Overall, I’d say it was an expensive hotel for my budget (probably I couldn’t reserve it without the promotion), but I was very satisfied my stay here. The access to the metro is also very close (colosseum station), and there’s a tram station in front of the hotel. The location is close to the touristic area with enough distance to relax. The area seemed very safe at night and quiet.

Enjoy your travel with Marimonda! See you soon 🙂
